A Swiss Delegation Visits GCMHP and Deir El-Balah Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Violence

A Swiss delegation of the Swiss Development Corporation (SDC) in Jerusalem visited Gaza Community Mental Health Programme. The delegation consisted of Antwan Laham, Khaled El-Hossainy, and Mario Carrira, the coordinator of the GCMHP's Consortium of Donors. The main purpose of the visit was to get an update on the current activities and implementation of the strategic plan as well as to coordinate for the next consortium meeting to be held in the beginning of October, 2005.

The delegation met with Dr. Eyad El-Sarraj, Director General of GCMHP at the main office, who provided the visitors with a full picture about the implementation of the strategic plan as well as giving a brief overview about the current changes in GCMHP in the last period.

Then, the delegation visited the Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Violence in Deir El-Balah. They were welcomed by Mohamad El-Zeer, Director of the Community Center, and Dr. Rageb Abu Moelg, Dr. Yaser Abu Jamee', and Hamam Beseso. The purpose of the visit was to be familiar with the work of the Center and have an overview of the activities of the WEP, especially the courses held for women trainees victims of violence.

The delegation was given a detailed explanation of the implementation of the strategic plan. special emphasis was given to the school mediation project that is being implemented in schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. Additionally, the delegation was given an overview about the integration of the WEP in Deir El-Balah Community Center
