"Israeli Supreme Court Gives State Prosecutor an Additional 30 Days to Respond on the Legal Status of Gaza Strip

Yesterday, The Israeli Supreme Court issued a decision to accept the State General Prosecutor demand to give them 30 additional days to respond on the legal status of the Gaza Strip after implementing the Israeli disengagement plan from Gaza Strip

This decision came as part of the lawsuit case presented by Gaza Community Mental Health Programme and Physicians for Human Right-PHR Israel to force the Israeli army to stop its sonic booms over Gaza. This extension comes after giving the General State Prosecutor - previously- 45 days to respond to the same question of the legal status of Gaza.

We view this decision by the Supreme Court as permission for procrastination in responding to our appeal to the court to stop the sonic booms.

It is worth mentioning that the Israeli army started it sonic booms on Gaza immediately after implementing the disengagement plan and military withdrawal from Gaza Strip. As a result, GCMHP and PHR have presented the lawsuit in the beginning of November, 2005. Up until now, there is no decision taken, but, there was procrastination in the legal procedures in the case with coverage from the court.
