Gaza Community Mental health Programme (GCMHP) condemns the incident of shooting at Dr. Ayoub Othman, the lecturer of Al Azhar University and head of its employees' union, by unknown gunmen on the evening of 13th of February. Dr. Othman was injured with a bullet in his left leg and his health condition was classified as moderate.

This incident is a new crime added to the state of chaos and lawlessness witnessed in the Palestinian Territories which escalated lately.
GCMHP expresses great concern over such incidents and the fact that they are targeting academics. This incident constitutes a major threat to the academic liberties and the general freedom of speech in Palestine. As a result, we expect to have disastrous political and social consequences in the Palestinian society, in case such situations continue and the perpetrators of such crimes remain unknown.

We demand the Palestinian Authority to take its responsibilities in investigating this crime and to bring the perpetrators to Justice.
