"GCMHP Launched a Campaign against the Use of the Radiation Inspection System
by the Israeli Authorities at Rafah Crossing" GCMHP started a campaign to stop the use of the radiation inspection apparatus by the Israeli Authorities at Rafah crossing, which is the terminal bordering Egypt in the Southern Gaza Strip and the only access point to the overpopulated Strip for Palestinian Residents. The apparatus is being used to inspect Palestinian travelers ensuring that they are not carrying explosives.
The initiative by GCMHP comes after emphasis by a number of Palestinian Radiologists that this apparatus releases a high dosage of harmful radiations that expose people to a multiple health hazards including; danger of cancer or malfunctioning of brain cells or even sterility. The Programme is joining the increasing concerns raised by a number of residents and concerned individuals over the harmful impact of such apparatus. As a first practical step, GCMHP initiated a request from its partner organization Physicians for Human Rights in Israel to pursue the Israeli authorities to request examining the danger of such apparatus. In case the Israeli authority did not respond to such demands, the Programme will resort to filing a compliant to the Supreme Court of Israel or any other international court requesting to send a qualified professional team or a neutral medical committee in an attempt to halt the use of such hazardous inspection system.
