Cease Fire is a Positive Step towards Peace

The Palestinian Israeli agreement on immediate halt to all form of violence was highly welcomed everywhere particularly among the destroyed neighborhoods in Gaza which lost many of its citizens in the vicious and futile cycle of violence. This agreement signifies a higher state of responsibility on all parts and it speaks for the millions who cry and deserve peace.

This agreement, crowned by extensive efforts exerted by different parties, constitutes a glimpse of hope by providing a fertile political atmosphere for truce and regaining trust between the different conflicting parties and paves the road for resuming the peace process in the whole region.

We, at the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, with full support of the agreement, would like to express our strongest wish that the agreement be maintained on the grounds hoping that the cycle of violence and targeting civilians will come to an end. Moreover, we hope that the cease fire is a first step towards resumption of the political process and reaching a political agreement that will guarantee peace and security in the whole region.

The unified position that different national parties took yesterday, by declaring a cease fire, is an embodiment of the principles of national unity and is a vivid example of the wise approach in dealing with the internal Palestinian affairs. Such united position portrays positive images of Palestinians and reinforces the national position and strengthens the stands of Palestinian leadership and the people worldwide.

The international community is demanded today to intervene to maintaining the ceasefire agreement, enforcing equal rights, protecting civilian lives, and respecting UN security resolutions and all international agreements.

We hope that a similar agreement be reached on prisoners exchange between Palestinians and Israelis in order to move forward with the political path seeking to reach a comprehensive peace in the whole region.

In this occasion, we salute President Abbas and Prime Minster Hannyiyya and also the Palestinian Israeli leaders. We loudly salute the Egyptian president and government for all what they are doing and will do to help the Palestinians and the noble cause of peace.

Blessed are the peace makers.
