>GCMHP’s Women Empowerment Project, Rafah branch, conducted a workshop entitled “The Reality of Palestinian Families under the Current Circumstances” in Al Naseem Hall, in Rafah City on September 4th, 2007. Many representatives of NGOs participated in the discussion. Mr. Talal Owkal, political analyst, pointed out that Gaza incidents created a new reality needs at least two decades to end its negative impacts. Such impacts represented in destroying the social fabric and accumulating the culture of social violence. Mrs. Zainab Ghonaimi, Director of Women's Center for Legal Counseling talked about the economic situations, indicating that when Israel realized the imminent establishment of Palestinian state, it decided to destroy all economic constituents. Mrs. Ghonaimi added that the consequences of the political situation in Gaza on the Palestinian families and explained that they live severe conditions led to significant increase in violence phenomenon. Mr. Hatem Qrinawi, Chief of Health Counseling Department in Union of Health Work Committees, asserted that tens of patients who suffer from serious diseases died in Gaza as a result of lack of medication inside Gaza and inability to get outside. Further, Mr. Qrinawi added that there had been an unprecedented severe shortage in medicine, especially for chronic diseases’. In term, Mr. Samir Zagout, psychologist in GCMHP, asserted that political violence practiced by israel affected on the social violence. He explained that the risks occurred in the indirect violence which represented in all forms of pressure and violence practiced by Israel that resulted in anger and frustration. Moreover, Mr. Zagout warned against the negative patterns of upbringing and violence that children expose to, asserting that violence brings about reversal violence which will lead to increasing violence phenomenon in the community. Mr. Zagout also talked about some mental problems that may infect individuals who are exposed to violence. |
