Terror

The Symptom and the Disease

The horrific acts of terror in Madrid which killed innocent human beings have the mark of evil at work with no mercy. It is not yet known if the perpetrators of this heinous act were Eta terrorists but there are claims that Alqaeda was behind the atrocities as it was behind similar crimes in Istanbul, Casablanca, New York, Baghdad and Riyadh. There is a strange determination in some circles of political media to link it to Muslims.

It is shocking as much as distressing to acknowledge that Islam is thus hijacked again by some terrorists and abused by some racists. The perpetrators do not deserve to be Muslims. This is not Islam. This is not a struggle for liberty. These are brutal crimes against humanity and against Islam. They supposedly target Spanish, British, Jewish or American targets, but their ultimate target is all of us.

Such acts of terror obliterate the just cause of liberation and demoralise the struggle for freedom in Palestine, in Arabia, in Chechnya and elsewhere. Such acts only strengthen the logic of Bush and Sharon and other dictators. If these terrorists are indeed Muslims, then they must be working for the enemy of Islam as Muslims define it. By spreading fear, pain and agony, Muslims become victims of hatred and discrimination and Islam appears to be a bad faith. This is not the goal of Muslims.
Even if Muslims have been victims of colonial Zionist exploitation and vicious racism by the imperialists, they should not lower themselves to that level of inhumanity. On the contrary, Muslims should respect their own religion and their prophet who urges them to protect life and human dignity.

This is pure evil and evil needs no excuse. George Bush did not need weapons of mass destruction- which he knew did not exist- to strike Iraq. Evil needs no nationality and no religion. Terrorists in Riyadh, New York and Istanbul killed Muslims as they kill humanity.

Evil feeds Evil. It has its own momentum as it generates more hatred and more revenge. Sharon was restless when Palestinian militants went into a unilateral truce. After fifty days of quiet, he went into a campaign of killing, typically inviting Palestinian suicide bombing inside Israel.

Evil needs Evil. Bin Laden and other terrorist groups were created by the likes of Bush to ‘Liberate’ Afghanistan from the communists. Now they serve him well to ‘liberate’ the rest of world.

What was so obvious to many when the war on Iraq started, is now very clear. Bin Laden terror was a symptom of a disease. The disease is the brutal Israeli occupation of Palestine, the oppressive dictatorships in the Arab world, and the unashamed American support of both.

To those who know the truth, the remedy is simply clear; justice, respect for human dignity and pain. But for the conceited, the short sighted and the racists, remedy was more racism, more arrogance and more murder.

Bush and Blair’s war against Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction was but a fabricated lie. Arab dictators making speeches about Palestine are but a deliberate deceit. Supporting democracy and human rights in the Arab world by the White House is but unashamed hypocrisy.

The American and Israeli ‘war against terror’ was a new means of blaming the victim and insults human intelligence. It deepens grievances and sharpens anger.

Instead of treating the serious disease of injustice and racism, the Bush- Sharon- Bin Laden axis of evil is making terror a disease on its own and the world a dangerous place.

What happened in Madrid was a sad day.
We had too many sad days in New York, Karbala, Jerusalem, Jenin and Baghdad. It should make every man and woman agonise about the fate of humanity as terrorists appear to be winning and murderers are positioned in high places.

We should not allow it. Muslims have to rise to protect Islam from its abductors. Americans have to rise to protect America from its tyrant. Israelis have to rise to protect Jews from their exterminator .
